If these tools could talk

Call me a tool junkie. And please, bring me my favorites - the old stuff. It's an exhilarating feeling to hold something that has stood the test of time and has unknown stories to tell about the ways it has contributed to the world of art. These are the tools that allow me to continue holding the values of old-world craftsmanship and sustainability, while I am simultaneously also utilizing state of the art technology to design my jewelry.

I've been acquiring tools from all over the globe - from small towns in the US to the major cities in Europe. My favorite tool finds are the ones with personalized touches, modifications, and hallmarked signatures/initials of the owners. What better legacy to leave than to tweak a tool and make it even more useful than the original? And what a privilege it is for me to use a tool that has been well-constructed and properly maintained (i.e., cared for) so that I can transfer some of that energy to my work in the present.

Tools help us do things better. Previously-loved tools take it to another level. They help us to be better every day by learning from the past, pushing the envelope in the present, and leaving our mark for a more sustainable future.

Back to the bench...
